There are many teeth whitening products out there. Some can be used at home and some can be done in a dentist's office. However, while many people discuss the various ways you can whiten you teeth, fewer people talk about the ways you can keep teeth whiter in the first place. Here are a few of the easy things that you can do to help your teeth stay naturally whiter.

Swap Out Your Toothbrush Regularly

One of the best ways to help your teeth stay whiter is to swap out your toothbrush regularly. If the bristles on your toothbrush are bent or worn down, they cannot effectively clean your teeth. Not only does this increase the likelihood of you getting cavities and gum disease, but it can cause your teeth to yellow or develop stains. It is recommended that you replace your toothbrush or the head on an electric one every 90 days, or as needed due to bent or worn bristles.

Eat Plenty of Raw Fruits and Vegetables

Another way you can naturally and easily help your teeth stay whiter is by eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables. Eating raw fruits and vegetables is good for your waist line and your health. But it is also great for your teeth. When fruits and vegetables are raw, many have a slightly abrasive texture to them. This texture helps to scrub away stains and plaque. Some of the fruits and vegetables that are great for removing stains and whitening teeth include apples, carrots and celery.

Brush Your Tongue

The last way you can easily help your teeth to stay whiter is to brush your tongue. After brushing your teeth, take your tooth brush and gently brush your tongue. This helps to kill off bacteria that causes bad germs and can lead to cavities. However, it also kills off bacteria that can lead to tooth discoloration. Using mouthwash is not enough. Some of the bacteria has to be scrubbed off, so be sure you brush your tongue to rid your mouth of it.

There are many easy things you can do to help your teeth stay whiter. However, despite your best efforts, you may have stains on your teeth that won't lift, or your teeth have naturally yellowed or darkened due to age. If your teeth are already yellow or stained, talk to your dentist about professional teeth whitening. This can help to lift old stains and discoloration, so you have white teeth that you can be proud to show off.
