During adolescence, it is not uncommon to see kids wearing braces to correct the alignment of their teeth. However, adults are quickly flocking to have their teeth aligned as well. Adults do so for a variety of reasons, whether it is cosmetic or to correct jaw alignment. Some adults can even get away with wearing the metal braces for a short amount of time to just fix smaller issues. The following are some things you should know if you are considering short-term braces:

Why Should You Get Short Term Braces?

Short term braces can be used to fix small issues and improve your smile. They are used to improve the appearance of teeth if they have a gap or are crooked. The braces can be set on the top and bottom of the mouth. A benefit to short term braces is the limited amount of time they have to be on the teeth. Depending on what the issues with the teeth are, you could only have to wear braces for a few months.

Which Type of Braces Should You Get?

Orthodontists typically use traditional metal braces just like you see on teenagers. Some adults ask for clear brackets to help the braces seem less obvious.

What Issues Do Short Term Braces Not Fix?

The goal of short term braces is to improve the cosmetic look of the teeth. They do not repair any issues that cause you medical maladies. If your jaw is not aligned or if you have problems with your bite, the braces will not help unless you leave them on the teeth for much longer.

What Other Options Are There?

If you are not keen on the idea of wearing braces as an adult, you can consider some other options. A clear alignment system is an option that is quickly growing in popularity. These are clear aligning trays that you wear for most hours of the day, but they can be removed to brush your teeth. As time goes on, your teeth will be straightened, which can help improve your smile.

You may also want to consider veneers. Veneers are essentially a complete remake of your teeth. The enamel of the teeth is taken away and new teeth made of ceramic are placed on top. This is a fast way to fix your smile as opposed to braces, but it is expensive and will eventually require replacement. Carefully consider your options before you make your choice.
